JKU account

Your JKU account consists of your JKU username and JKU password. In order to use JKU's IT services, you'll need an active JKU account.

JKU Username

Students

Based on your student ID number (which you'll find on your JKU card), you can create your JKU username as follows:

  • If your student ID number begins with 1-9: “k” + your complete eight-digit student ID number (e.g., student ID number 12345678 → k12345678)
  • If your student ID number begins with 0: “k” + the last 7 digits of your student ID number (e.g. student ID number 01234567 → k1234567)

Prospective Students

JKU's data collection process requires that you provide your personal data. You will receive a username for this data collection:

  • V + 7 digits (e.g., V9016312 or VK938465)

Employees

Based on your staff number (which you'll find on your JKU card), you can create your JKU username as follows:

  • six-digit staff number: "ak" + staff number (e.g., staff number 123456 → ak123456)
  • five-digit staff number: "ak1" + staff number (e.g., staff number 12345 → ak112345)
  • four-digit staff number: "ak10" + staff number (e.g., staff number 1234 → ak101234)

If you do not know your staff number, please refer to your employment contract or contact the JKU Department of Human Resource Management.

JKU Account Validity

Students

Your JKU account will be deactivated four weeks after you deregister from your program of study.

Employees

Termination of employment:

Access to individual services, such as ESS, Intranet and CAMAS ("Studierendenabfrage") will be immediately deactivated when your employment ends.

The JKU account will generally be deactivated eight months after termination of the employment relationship unless a superior initiates immediate or premature deactivation of the JKU account. Appropriate information will be sent by email.

Attention:

As of February 10, 2022, the calculation of the “grace period” for JKU employees was newly adapted.

Depending on the group of people, the grace period after leaving the JKU (end of employment) can be set individually.

For now, the regulation for NEW departures looks like this:

Scientific staff: grace period = 240 days

General staff: grace period = 14 days

Partner account: no grace period

Existing resignations (information email with 8 months of goodwill has already been sent) are not affected by this regulation.

Parental leave:

Access to pay slips via ESS is still possible on the parental leave date. When it comes to travel expense accounting, people on leave must contact the JKU personnel management directly.

Access to the intranet (JKU Help) for people on parental leave is only available if parental leave is available.

All other IT services (e-mail, file service, VPN, eduroam / WLAN, ...) are still possible without restrictions.

Application for External Persons

Instructions for creating an account for external people can be found here.

Library Users

People other than students and staff can also use the university library via library accounts. These are not overseen by Information Management. You can find more information on the Library's public website under Library Account and Borrowing Books & Materials.

Library users only have access to the "JKU" WLAN. Eduroam is not available.
